26 Merchant Taylors’ Prep School Newsletter - 07.02.2018 MTP Music Year 3 & 4 Music Recital Boys from Years 3 and 4 gave their annual music recital on Friday 2nd February. All who participated performed very well and it was lovely to get a glimpse of the wealth of musical talent among MTP boys. We would like to thank Mrs Jones for accompanying players of orchestral instruments, and the boys’ teachers for preparing them for their performances. ABRSM music exams In the Autumn term, ten boys took ABRSM music exams and all did very well. Sufyan Ismail and Nathaniel Williams gained their Prep Test certificate on flute and cello respectively. The following boys achieved a pass in their grade exams: Karan Bains (grade 4 guitar), Rehan Gupta (grade 2 piano), Rishaan Khanna (grade 1 flute), Yash Kotecha (grade 2 piano), Aarian Malhotra (grade 4 singing), and Charlie Marshall (grade 6 trumpet). Vivaan Verma did exceptionally well, passing grade 3 cornet with merit at 3 B flat cornet, as did Ethan Ghosh, getting a distinction at grade 2 piano. Very well done to all these boys. MTP Drama Record-Breaking Y7 LAMDA results! Congratulations to our Autumn Term Y7 LAMDA cohort who smashed all previous records in securing 11 straight Distinction passes with a staggering average mark of 90.5% - including a record-equalling highest ever score for Rohan Shah (7W3) with a fantastic 96%! This is an incredible achievement for all concerned. 197 Y7 pupils have now undertaken LAMDA exams over the past eight years, averaging an impressive 80% per pupil (a Distinction in itself!) on their way to 118 Distinctions, 75 Merits and 4 Passes. The bar has been raised once again, as Speech and Drama continues to go from strength to strength at MTP. Well done, boys!
