1 Merchant Taylors’ Prep School Newsletter - 28.03.2018 Another term draws to an end and this newsletter is bursting with information about a selection of some of the events that have occurred in school recently. I consider our boys very lucky indeed to be immersed in so many opportunities. Highlights for me have been the wonderful music concert at the Merchant Taylors’ Hall in London (I have included a photo of our string quartet), the spectacular performance of ‘Emil and the Detectives’ by Year 6 last week, when I was stunned by the boys’ acting prowess and ability to put on such a professional show, and the captivating ‘I Believe in Unicorn’s performance by Danyah Miller the previous week. Please take a look at the English page where you will find some excellent dystopian film trailer clips the Year 8 boys made recently. I would like to congratulate Niels Redman for the music scholarship he gained at MTS recently and Charlie Marshall for his all-round scholarship to MTS. Our Year 8 pupils are the first who have not done the 13+ examinations and, yet, have won more scholarships to MTS, ten in total, than any other year group previously. We also have a group of Year 6 pupils who have been awarded continuity scholarships to MTS and congratulate Jack Groves (Terry Scholarship), Dylan Mehta (Lee Scholarship), Nikhil Mohan (Wolsey Scholarship), Kishan Bharti, Rehan Gupta, Shaurya Jhunjhunwala, Varshan Sasikumar, Jai Satheesh and Matthew Schiff. As you are already aware, Mr Hibbert is leaving us at the end of this academic year because he is taking over as Head of a Prep School in Staffordshire. Mrs Hibbert has just been successful in securing a job as well and so it is confirmed that she, too, will be leaving at the end of this academic year. I thank her for her brilliant work as Head of IT and wish both Hibberts the very best in their new life ‘up North’! I have now begun the process of recruiting a new Head of IT to start in September. We also thank Mrs Nicholas for her great work at MTP as she is leaving us at the end of this term to return to being a full-time mum. Mrs Nicholas has worked successfully in several areas of the school: Years 3 & 4, Nursery and most recently as English teacher in Years 5 & 6. I wish her much happiness in the future. Mr Reedy will take over Mrs Nicholas’ teaching commitments next term. I wish you all a very happy and peaceful Easter holiday and remind you that school recommences on Monday 16 April. Best wishes Dr McNerney | Head of Merchant Taylors’ Prep Welcome from the Head MTP ThisMonth
