38 Merchant Taylors’ Prep School Newsletter - 28.03.2018 MTP Classics Y3 Archaeology Report Thursday, 16th March: To support the boys’ Classics and History, Y3 began some experimental archaeology at School, burying a box of artefacts on the grounds. Each boy had chosen two items from home to go into the boxes. We theorised what would happen to the artefacts between March and October, when the boxes are scheduled to be dug up. We discussed the difference between organic and inorganic objects, and considered what might happen to some metal artefacts. The boys recorded their theories in their Latin books, and also noted how the site looked, how the deposits were marked, and what the soil was like. The boys particularly enjoyed getting muddy as they helped to bury the boxes! Many thanks to Miss Gavacan, Mr Goddard, Mr Lake, Mr McConnell and Mrs McManus for their help.
