1 Merchant Taylors’ Prep School Newsletter - 25.05.2018 As we approach half term, it is wonderful to see the variety of events and achievements that have occurred at school and been included in this newsletter. I would like to highlight a few of these events that the boys have taken part in. The Y5 Mask Production was hugely enjoyed by everyone and it is always so impressive to see how the boys can act without using facial expression. The Young Musician of the Year competition was literally breath-taking and a brilliant way to showcase some of our very talented musicians at both MTP and MTS. A team of boys from Y7 have progressed to the National Finals for the Bloodhound Challenge which is an excellent achievement. We have also had some events for parents which have been equally memorable. The Comedy Night organised by the Parents’ Association was a fantastic success supported by numerous parents; I have not laughed so hard in a very long time. On a dierent note, we arranged a Sleep Talk for parents and were reminded about some vital facts relating to sleep. For example, it is useful to know that 3-5 year olds ideally should sleep for 10-13 hours a night and the equivalent figure is 9-11 hours for 6-13 year olds. Also worth noting is that lack of sleep leads to concentration issues and can even mimic symptoms of ADHD. Last week, the Parents’ Association organised a Royal- themed cake sale and mufti day, which was once again enjoyed by the boys. It also gave us a chance to raise our new MTP flag. The Parents’ Association this week organised drop-in sessions to help find a donor for Kaiya, a pupil at St Helen’s and others like her who desperately need stem cell donors; thank you to those that have attended a swab test. I would like to thank the PA enormously for displaying our core values of community and empathy in arranging these events for our school. We would be much less of a school without the PA. I hope that everyone enjoys the half term break and I look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday 5 June (school is closed for sta training on Monday 4 June).
