31 Merchant Taylors’ Prep School Newsletter - 25.05.2018 MTP Sport Man of the Match Having beaten Aldwickbury in round 1 of the IAPS cup, we were sent deep into the heart of London to play St.Paul’s. They put themselves into bat and opened with their two county batsmen. MTP did really well to contain them to 111-4 o 20 overs. In the chase all looked comfortable ahead of the run rate when we lost our first wicket at 63. The turning point came when our one county player Krish Patel was adjudged lbw with the score 83 from 14. St.Paul’s were fired and clawed their way back into the game. With 1 over to go we were 5 wickets down needing 7 to win. By the last ball we had lost 2 wickets but drawn level on scores. With the facing batsman only facing his 2nd delivery contact was made, the run taken, alas the ball went aerial and was caught! Tied match, alas MTP out due to conceding more wickets. Krish Patel with the Man of the Match Ashes. His 91* set up victory over Aldwickbury in Rd 1 of the Nationals. It was also the 3rd highest score at the school since Mr Horne’s tenure and a new Year 7 record to go with his Year 6 record. Ashil Shah’s longstanding school records from 2008 are under serious threat for the first time. Watch this space.
