5 Merchant Taylors’ Prep School Newsletter - 25.05.2018 This term the boys at The Manor have been immersed in their topic about Dinosaurs and there has been a real buzz to their learning. The photographs show the range of exciting activities in which the boys have participated. Highlights include a special visit from Ian Whybrow, who told the boys all about Harry and his Bucketful of Dinosaurs, and an Art Day, led by Mr Roach, when the boys collaborated to make a giant mosaic dinosaur. The Robins and Wrens also learnt so much from a visit from three Reception parents who told them all about the Sikh festival of Vaisakhi. Likewise, Year 1 and 2 began the term with an “eggciting” challenge that began their topic about Knights and Castles. They responded to a plea for help; taking a risk to follow clues to find eggs hidden in the school grounds. These dragon’s eggs have been the impetus for lots of imaginative work including using clay to make their own dragon models and the work of Paul Klee to inspire drawings of castles. The photographs that follow give a flavour of this as well as other aspects of the boy’s learning this term including stick art in the woods and practical Maths in Year 1, where the boys have been using manipulatives to add and subtract 2 digit numbers. Paul Cookson also came to visit us this term and all the boys in Pre-Prep thoroughly enjoyed a poetry session with him in the Theatre. Year 1 and Year 2 subsequently developed their poetry skills in workshops with him. The photographs show Year 1 and the poem they created with him and boys in the Nursery enjoying his show. I have also included photographs of the boys enjoying the Royal Wedding Mufti Day last Friday and I would like to thank the PA for the delicious cakes they so thoughtfully provided for us. We are looking forward to our Sports Day this week when I am sure that, once again, the boys will show superb sportsmanship and we will be very proud of them all. The Pre-Prep day will end after the sporting events, 10.30am for Nursery and Reception boys and 12.30pm for Year 1 and Year 2, to enable you to start your Half Term. I hope that this break is a restful one for you all and that the boys will come back refreshed, ready for the last few weeks of the term.
