18 Merchant Taylors’ Prep School Newsletter - 16.11.2018 At the Manor this month our topic about Once upon a Time has continued and the boys have enjoyed a variety of activities to support their learning about different stories. The photographs show the range of experiences they enjoyed, from tasting the Three Bear’s porridge to making a stick house for the Three Little Pigs in the woods. The boys have also been looking at the changes to our environment as the seasons have changed. The Nursery explored the grounds of Merchant Taylors’ School on an Autumn Walk and the boys searched for signs of Autumn whilst collecting conkers and leaves. Reception investigated pumpkins and made delicious soup from vegetables. The photographs show the fun they had! Years 1 and 2 have been to visit Mill Green Museum and Mill as part of their current topic. They heard the story of the Little Red Hen, saw first-hand how wheat is milled into flour and then all made their own loaf of bread to take home. The photographs give a flavour of their day out. The boy’s learning continued once back at school as they painted hen pictures and tasted delicious honey from all over the world. We have also celebrated Diwali in Pre-Prep and the photographs show Year 1 boys with the special artefacts they brought in from home to show their class. Finally, I would like to say a very big thank you to everyone who donated so generously to our Harvest appeal for the Watford Refugee Trust this term. In school for Harvest, we also celebrated our crop of apples from the school’s orchard by drinking school-made apple juice. We all picked the apples for Year 2 to press in to juice, before tasting the fruits of our labours in Assembly.
