35 Merchant Taylors’ Prep School Newsletter - 14.12.2018 Year 8 Memorial Gardens MTP History As part of our unit on World War One, Year 8 boys were set the challenge of designing their own memorial gardens. Whether using pen and paper, collage or model making, the boys more than rose to the challenge. Their finished pieces showed exceptional creativity, imagination and skill. Moreover, talking to the boys about their designs showed that they had really considered the significance of different design features. Boys were able to channel empathy and demonstrate a mature cultural awareness, recognising the significance of the centenary this year. It was particularly moving to hear some boys referring to their experiences from their recent trip to the Battlefields in Ypres when articulating the meaning behind their plans.
