37 Merchant Taylors’ Prep School Newsletter - 14.12.2018 Year 4 Archaeology Morning: Friday, 23rd November 2018 MTP Classics The current Y4 had buried two boxes of artefacts, one for each Y3 form, in March. Each boy had chosen two objects to bury: one which he felt would change during its time underground, and one which he felt would be resistant to change. On Friday, 23rd November, the boys, ably assisted by Mr Waddington, Miss Benson, Mrs Scales, Mrs Jones, Mrs Vohora and Mr Lake excavated the boxes from the cold, wet clay. The boys embraced getting their hands dirty - as boys should! After the excavation, the boys analysed their objects to see what had happened. The boys were fascinated by how rust and decay had been at work. They also understood that an object disappearing was a valid result. The boys enjoyed this insight into the value and work of archaeology, and reinforced their Classics, History and Science. Mr Waddington - Head of Classics Archaeology question time Making predictions
