49 Merchant Taylors’ Prep School Newsletter - 14.12.2018 MTP Sport As we come to the end of the Autumn term we can reflect on an outstanding terms sports at MTP. Recently our U13A Rugby team beat York House to open MTS Rugby week on their 1st team floodlit pitch. To finish the week four of our U10/ U11 players were selected for the MTS Barbarians team to play in fixtures for their respective age groups, congratulations to Tobi Alade (Y6), Roshan Patel, Aarav Mohan and Amay Mohan (Y5) on four excellent performances. Standout performances of the term include the U10A Rugby team winning away 8-5 at UCS, overturning a half time deficit against a notoriously strong Rugby school. Our U8 Rugby players have played their first competitive matches against other schools, including a brilliant performance in the Gayhurst Rugby Festival and a Rugby Development Day. The U8A team managed to go unbeaten for the term in fixtures against St John’s twice and Haberdashers’ Aske’s, well done to all boys in Y3 for their hard work and improvements made across the board. In Hockey both the U12 & U13 teams have again made their respective THL finals, where they will play St John’s this week. Our U13 team recently won 3-2 at Haileybury, in a round of fixtures that included the U12A and two development squads all travelling away. Thoughts now go ahead to the U13 Bath Hockey Tour early next term. HOUSE CROSS COUNTRY In our now annual House Cross Country races around MTS lake records continue to be set each year, this time through Oliver Browne representing Wren house in the Y7/8 race. We set a new challenge on top of the traditional two laps of the lake, to set a fastest time over three laps (roughly 6km). Oliver completed it in 26 mins and 38 seconds, and has set the target for future years to chase down. Congratulations Oliver on a great run, and winning the Y7/8 race. Overall winners in Y7/8 were Johnson house, after a stronger collective run from their participants. In Y5/6 Aaron Pascoe took the crown representing Livingstone house over two laps with a time of 19 mins and 29 seconds. Livingstone also winning the race overall after a strong run from those behind him. In Y3/4, it was Y3’s first visit to the lake and experience of House Cross Country. Overall winner of the race was Noah Browne in 9 mins and 11 seconds, with the highest place Y3 runner being Mateus Pascoe in 6th place finishing in 10 mins and 1 second. A good week for the Browne and Pascoe households! However, Newton house were the overall winners in Y3/4 after a strong group effort to finish high up the leader board. Thank you to all boys for their efforts this term, and thank you to parents for their support, whether it be through attending fixtures or making sure the boys are prepared for lessons. We wish you all a great Christmas and look forward to starting the Football term in January.
