51 Merchant Taylors’ Prep School Newsletter - 15.03.2019 MTP Sport This month has seen a number of Football matches for pupils in Y3-8, including recent U8 Gayhurst and U9 HABS tournaments. Both sides performed exceptionally well, with the U8’s reaching the Plate Final and the U9’s winning 5 out of 7 matches! Highlights of the term so far include two victories for the U10A & U11A sides over UCS, a hat-trick for Aarav (Y5) and a brace for Tobi (Y6) respectively giving each side their win. The U11A’s also winning 1-0 over Belmont the previous week. Our U9’s recorded a very impressive 5-1 victory over Berkhamsted, and the 1st XI winning 4-0 over King Alfred’s School. We have our U10 Larkin Shield fast approaching on Saturday 23rd March, good luck to those taking part, which will finish off what has been a fine term of Football so far. A group of pupils from Y5-8 participated in this year’s Watford FC Matchday Package, consisting of coaching from Watford’s coaches before watching a first team fixture vs Everton. Well done to all that attended, and we look forward to next year’s event. Our U13 Cross Country team recently participated in the St Martin’s Road race finishing 3rd overall. The team captain Oliver finishing with the third fastest time, and vice-captain Georgios 6th. A terrific effort by all, well done. OMT’s Hockey Coach and Scotland international, Rory Kerr, recently took his first coaching session with MTP students in what will become a more regular occurance as the term progresses. We are fortunate enough to have Rory available to coach pupils during their games sessions and share his experiences of both coaching and playing at the highest level. We look forward to more sessions in the future! U13ACross Country Teamafter St Martin’s Road Race
