26 Merchant Taylors’ Prep School Newsletter - 15.11.2019 San Francisco MTP Geography I believe that San Francisco in California matches the criteria of a city the best. From the steep streets to the rolling hills and mountains. When I descended from the plane, I was amazed by how different it was to all the other places I had been to. The culture and diversity took me by storm. The city has several regions: Central, Richmond, Sunset, Upper Market and Bernal heights, each unique but with a common thread of the grid road system. As a city, San Francisco is versatile in many ways. For instance, there are many hiking trails. These are home to a lot of wildlife, including snakes and even lions. On the other hand, San Francisco is home to some of the largest tech companies in the world. Google, Facebook and even Apple have offices in the outskirts of the city. In total San Francisco is home to 880,000 people and welcomes 25.8 million tourists every year. Historically it was a very liberal city with a lot of activists, marches and protests, but today it just feels like a city with lots to see and do, least of all the famous and fabulous Golden Gate Bridge. Another city that meets the definition is Seville in Spain. Seville is the capital city of the southern region of Andalusia. The average temperature is 19 degrees celsius. I enjoyed my visit and loved the atmosphere within the heart of the city. I think Seville was the most vibrant and colourful place I’ve ever been to. As well as being an enormous tourist attraction, Seville is a religious city with many cathedrals and churches. The main belief in these Spanish streets is Christianity, although many residents have other commitments. In Easter, there is a beautiful religious festival called Semana Santa, their holy week. All in all, I thought that Seville was amazing Last but not least we have Dar es Salaam. On the east coast of Africa, Dar es Salaam is one of the busiest cities I have ever been to. But on the outskirts of the city there are beautiful safaris with stunning wildlife. And best of all, the city has the most stunning blue glistening coastline, with the waves of the Indian Ocean always in the distance. Out of these 3 cities I love Dar es Salaam the most due to its scenery. by Ishan Olsen Cities Seville Dar-es-Salaam San Francisco
