45 Merchant Taylors’ Prep School Newsletter - 16.12.2021 MTP Modern Languages European Day of Languages 2021 Do you remember when you first noticed that French words have a rhythm and a sound pattern different from our own? Even words which are “borrowed” from English do not sound the same. Try saying “grand”, “voyage”, and “maths” and you will notice they are pronounced differently. This term all the boys have been learning lots of new vocabulary in French. 5 Curlews enjoyed pronouncing some of the phrases in the first module of the course. There was great satisfaction when boys mastered “un paquet de mouchoirs” and a lot of chuckling at the sound of the word “bonbons”. We wondered whether you liked the sound of any French phrases?
