37 Merchant Taylors’ Prep School Newsletter - 10.02.2022 MTP Modern Languages MFL Department Hosts a French Play Jeudi vingt janvier 2022…Vive la France! C’était génial! On the afternoon of Thursday 20th January, Merchant Taylors’ Prep hosted the Flying Theatre Company who performed a French play called ‘Vive la France!’ Our Year 8 boys were excited to learn that they would be watching a live French performance in the New Barn Theatre… and that they would be expected to follow the plot…and join in when required. Their anticipation was heightened by the fact that the Year 8 boys from Merchant Taylors’ Senior School, and their MFL staff would be there too. Suddenly our Year 8 French boys felt very important! “Nous avons de la chance!” Given that we have not been able to visit France in recent months, France was coming to us! The play was about characters in a sleepy country village preparing for the annual village gala - cue juggling with baguettes, worrying about the weather forecast (possibility of rain) and dancing to a rap about directions: “ En haut, en bas…. Ici ou Là… À gauche, À droite…. C’est comme tu voudras “. It is wonderful when our classroom lessons come to life, and we look forward to an “Encore” in the not too distant future.
