25 Merchant Taylors’ Prep School Newsletter - 25.03.2022 MTP Year 4 Greetings From Ancient Greece This term the boys have been learning about Ancient Greece and how it was not one country, but organised into different city states. After learning about the key features of the different city states, the boys researched and compared two of the most famous: Athens and Sparta. As a final task, the boys imagined we had gone on a school trip to Ancient Athens or Sparta and sent back a postcard to their class teachers. You can read some of their ideas in the text below and I have also included a few examples of some of the outstanding creativity used in the illustrations they provided. Mrs Waddell Head of History Ancient Athens by Ahris Ancient Athens by Ethan Ancient Sparta by Rishay Dear Mrs Jones Mrs Waddell has taken us to Ancient Athens. Athens was close to the sea which was sparkling and wavy. Did you know that girls did not go to school and boys only went between 7 and 15? They also compete in athletics which is famous in Greece. We saw loads of festivals, celebrations and plays which were very entertaining. I spoke to an 8 year old Athenian boy who told me all about his life. Did you know that boys went to school between 7 and 15?
