26 Merchant Taylors’ Prep School Newsletter - 25.03.2022 MTP Year 4 Dear Mrs Scales I have just gone on a trip to Ancient Sparta. It is a very brutal place (I love it!) I saw some boys wrestling in the dust. I think that I am going to live there so I will not see you again. When I am there, I will be living in a mountain and I will have to find my own food. I may get whipped if I am in trouble. After a while, I will have Spartan slaves. Not going to miss you. From Ayaan Dear Mrs Scales Mrs Waddell has taken us on a school trip to Ancient Athens. It is by the blue sparkling sea. We got to ride with their naval fleet. I spoke to a 14 year old Athenian boy who told me all about life in Athens. Did you know that in Athens girls did not go to school? Instead they just learned to spin and weave and cook. Athens had a yearly festival for drama and loved music and beauty. I like it so much, I have decided not to come back. Sorry. From Kye Dear Mrs Jones Mrs Waddell has taken us on an amazing school trip to Ancient Athens. It is right next to the sea Boys went to school between 7 and 15. Girls did not go to school but stayed at home and learned with their mothers. Rich girls could be taught to read and write. Did you know they were taught the same subjects as us? Just to let you know I am staying in Athens. From Sidhanth Dear Mrs Scales I have just gone on a trip to Ancient Sparta. I saw lots of people stealing, women running farms and men out farming. Children were trained to be soldiers at the age of 7. Boys were taken from their homes and sent to live on a mountain. Babies that were ill died on a mountain at birth. It was a great trip. From Krishan Dear Mrs Scales We have just arrived in Ancient Athens. It is full of wonder and amazement. The sea glows in the elegant sun and the citizens are friendly enough. An 8 year old Athenian boy told me that only boys were allowed to go to school and girls learned how to sew. We visited the theatre and the actors were wearing weird masks, but their voices were projected right to the back. After that we set off to the Parthenon and gazed in wonder at the solid gold statue of Athena (the goddess of wisdom). It was an amazing trip that will be embedded in my memory forever. From Haziq Dear Mrs Jones Mrs Waddell has taken us on an amazing school trip to Ancient Athens. We got to see lots of traders and an ocean blue stretch of water. We got to ride with their naval fleet. They were very friendly. We got to go to an Athenian school and learnt boys went to school between 7 and 15, but girls did not go. Did you know that Athens held yearly festivals? We are going to Olympia where the Olympics are held and then we will come back. Best wishes, From Aaron
