18 Merchant Taylors’ Prep School Newsletter - 14.10.2022 MTP Year 4 Dragons In Year 4 the boys have taken inspiration from the wonderful imagination of Cressida Cowell, the author of the How to Train Your Dragon series. They have listened to sections of a podcast where she was interviewed and set them a challenge of inventing their own dragons. They then had to write one paragraph really focusing on using rich language to describe their dragon. Here are some of the wonderful ideas they came up with. Fire Goblet by Lucas The most feared dragon is awake. He’s very hungry and when ready to move, he will breathe his name in fire. Whilst searching for prey he will be a reasonably content vegetarian. This beast has many names, but his real name is Fire Goblet. Travel after travel competitions he has won but he rarely finds any prey. His yellow piercing eyes scan the landscape for food and a sly friend like himself. Hour after hour, day after day and finally he finds the beginnings of a new village. His sharp razor claws help him climb the mountain to reach his reward, his prey. Fire-Lord by Albie The Fire-Lord looks very scary when he gets angry and shows his sharp pointed fangs. Incredibly clever, he makes everyone think he’s a hero but is really a ferocious monster. He sleeps for millions of years waiting for something big to happen. Being greedy, he eats towns full of people. This beast is as big as a mountain. When he stomps, he creates an earthquake. However, he can be very cunning and dives as quietly as a mouse when he is ready to attack. Scar by Aran Living high in the clouds, scary Scar has outstretched razor- sharp claws as it flies above. When it lands it gets ready to pounce on its prey. It starts a fight and breathes out fire as it teleports into various surroundings. If it is wounded it will keep going until the victim is hurt, then re-heal itself and carry on. Scar would be brave and fear nothing when entering dangerous situations being one of the bravest creatures to inhabit the skies.
