26 Merchant Taylors’ Prep School Newsletter - 14.10.2022 MTP Library September of 2022 was a month that will be very difficult to forget. On Thursday the 8th of September, the heartbreaking news that travelled around the world was that we lost our beloved Queen Elizabeth II. To say Her late Majesty was an extraordinary woman would be an understatement. Her service to this country, the whole United Kingdom and the Commonwealth was unequalled. A seventy-year reign that saw a lot of the world rebuilt following the devastation from the Second World War. During which time she had been a constant comfort to us all throughout all the highs and the lows. This year marked the the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, celebrating 70 years on the throne. As a nation, we all got to join in the festivities, where so many people had took to the streets in celebration during the commemorative bank holiday weekend. Our postage stamps and coins are a tangible representation of her all-extensive presence. Her warmth, kindness, humour and wisdom were the subtle qualities that allowed her to lead by example. We all come together in grief, each with our own sense of loss. Perhaps that is the hallmark of a great monarch: she reached us all, personally and in a special way. She was ‘our’ Queen. It is comforting to know that she is now reunited with her loving husband of 73 years, Prince Philip, who passed on 9th April 2021. Queen Elizabeth II Below are a few of our thoughts and messages from pupils in our own condolence book that we had here at the school. “Thank you, your Majesty, for all your services to our country. You are an inspirational role model and a truly significant figure. You will forever be in our hearts as such an amazing monarch who has contributed so much to all our lives. May you Rest in Peace.” “I remember when The Queen touched my head when I was 3 or so, and I remember her warm hands. She shaped our country, the world itself. Thank you, Queen Elizabeth, and May you Rest in Peace while being forever in our hearts.” “The Queen was such an inspiring figure, an inspirational role-model and majestic leader. She will forever be in our hearts. May she Rest in Peace.” “She was such a great person who inspired many people. Thank you so much Queen Elizabeth II for your time as a Queen ruling our country.” “I would like to thank you for all the wonderful things you have brought to this world and the people you have impacted. You are loved by everyone and thank you for being a great Queen. We will miss you.” “I am heartbroken, for we have lost a Queen, figurehead, woman and a mother in one. My heart is with the royal family.”
