34 Merchant Taylors’ Prep School Newsletter - 14.10.2022 MTP Music On Tuesday 5th July, the Music Department held its Summer Concert in the Lalani New Barn Theatre. The programme began with the Merchant Singers giving performances of California Dreamin’ (as made famous by The Mamas and the Papas) and the calypso number Peanut Vendor. Subsequent performances by our Wind, String, Guitar and Brass Ensembles were interspersed by recitals from over a dozen soloists. These ranged from a boy in Year 3 performing pieces from his Grade 1 Cornet repertoire, up to more experienced boys giving accomplished renditions of more demanding repertoire, including a tabla performance from this year’s winner of the Merchant Taylors’ Young Musician of the Year Competition. The concert concluded with three songs performed by Taylors’ Trebles. The standard of performance throughout the event was very high and we are very proud of all the boys who participated.
