Year 8 students played the role of a member of the voting public in Pompeii. They read the programmata (painted notices supporting candidates), recorded their impressions and voted – in character – their preferred candidate. They then put their knowledge of Pompeian election campaigning into practice. They devised a campaign strategy, aimed at winning votes for one of the candidates, called Vatia. Vatia (impersonated by Mr McConnell) chose the best campaign strategy. Felix and Septimus became his campaign managers!
